Domestic Villanella
How can I say I love you
as I do
save through this liturgy of common things
I do
The way I pull the curtain to the side
so that the sunlight may more featly pour
for your delight
...the loaves I shape with these two hands for you
the pies I bake,
the apples I slice...
and dash with spice.
How can I say I love you
as I do
just by the foods (seasoned with joy) that I cook for you,
just by the way, at dusk, I look for you...
"I do"
-Poppy Cannon
Will provide the context of the poem (way more political than I was expecting) in a bit...
